Gym Rules and Guidelines:
We must understand that gymnastics is a sport with risks resulting from motion, height, speed and power. Additional risks can be created by training and practice environments and misconduct of the gymnast. As in any sport, any one of these factors can lead to a very serious or disabling injury.
For safety reasons, these rules and regulation should always be followed:
- Appreciate and understand the risk in gymnastic activities.
- Always listen to your coach. Communicate and understand your coach's instructions.
- Be supervised. Never workout without a coach in the gym.
- Dress appopriately - no jewelry, lose clothing, or hair hanging in your face.
- Pay attention and concentrate. Always keep your eyes open when competing skills or routines.
- Be physically, mentally and emotionally prepared for physical activity every time you enter a workout or competition.
- Warm up properly before any activity. Utilize proper skill progressions. Do not attempt skills that are beyond your experience or capabilities.
- Always follow through with a skill. Never quit in the middle of a skill, especially in mid-air.
- Know that you have limits and that they change when you are sick or tired.
- Use proper landing techniques and mats for proper working and safety conditions.
- NEVER compromise safety. Safety comes first, second, and always.
Again, you must realize that due to the nature of gymnastics, the best coaching, supervision and equipment will not eliminate risks and injuries. The potential for a serious or disabling injury always exists in all athletics.
As you progress to the team levels, you are a member of Lakeshore Gymnastics, Dance & Cheer. This means that you may not attend practices at another facility unless it is sanctioned by Lakeshore and/or accompanied by a Lakeshore Coach (ie: High School Teams, camps, Seminars, etc., are ok). If you practice at another facility while a member of our teams, you will be asked to leave our team program.
Together, we can do our very best to eliminate injury through proper training and strong communication between the coach and the athlete.
